Philosophy
Shannon's philosophy is to take her love for children,
infuse fun into every possible moment of therapy,
and gather tools from all of her varied training experiences
to create a completely unique therapy program for each child.
She has worked extensively with toddlers and preschoolers
so she knows that they naturally learn during play and their daily routines. Therapy will be as fun and playful as possible and the rest is up to you, the parent. You will learn how to incorporate your child's goals into your everyday life; how to help your child speak more clearly, learn more words, produce longer sentences, understand directions and questions better while doing laundry together, cooking, bath time, reading time, and more.
Knowing and appreciating your child's unique blend of experiences, strengths, and weaknesses, Shannon can instantly make him feel comfortable, quickly identify his needs, and discover techniques
that work for him.
Along with her business partner, Sara Spencer,
Shannon has helped gather a unique and talented group of therapists who carry on this philosophy every day.
Home Visits Offered Every 9 to 12 Months
In an effort to get to know our client's better and to ensure carryover of new skills to the natural home setting, clients may be seen in their homes every 9 to 12 months. Your child's therapist will observe your child in his natural environment and consult with you, the expert in your child, about how to incorporate his goals into your daily lives. Within your daily routines, eating, bathing, dishes, laundry, you can address your child's specific speech and language needs. No need to set up a structured learning environment
with puzzles, games, and toys.
Client Match-Up System for Children with Autism
Knowing the intensity and feelings of isolation that come along with first getting a diagnosis of Autism or PDD for your child, we feel it is critical to help provide support for you. We do this by carefully matching up your child with another child at our office who is close in age and skill level. We encourage you to meet, chat, and get the kids together. You are not alone and there are other parents out there who have been through what you are going through now. You can be a great source of support for each other and we will do all we can to create that opportunity for you.
Free I.E.P. Review
Shannon offers her time to review her patient's IEP paperwork
for no additional charge. She will review the evaluation report to confirm that it is comprehensive and make appropriate recommendations as needed. She will also review the goals
to determine if they are appropriate for your child.
